Back to the Basics in Airflow

ductworkTrends in the industry are triggered with buzzwords like, “energy efficiencies,” “high performance,” “renewable,” and others like, “variable-flow”. But it’s not always about the buzzword that makes the trend. The basic function of a buildings sustainable objectives is what we are interested in. Energy costs are sky-rocketing leaving the designers and specifiers looking into ways to maximize energy efficiencies in their commercial buildings. Reducing costs, and boosting energy productivities of HVAC systems helps building owners and operators meet the latest sustainability requirements. Ductwork in both new construction and renovations are just as important as the mechanical components in a building like chillers and air handlers that are being specified. One choice that has its advantages is spiral ductwork. Its efficient air flow and minimal leakage helps reduce the energy needs of HVAC systems. It produces equal internal pressure that allows air movement to be consistent.

Building designers and specifiers strive to product airtight HVAC systems, minimizing air leaks. You can see air leaks if the duct isn’t sealed properly causing blowback to buildup outside the ductwork, making the duct unsightly and incompetent. A solution for airtight mechanics in spiral duct is a self sealing gasketed system called SPIRAmir®. SPIRAmir® is a patented product and represents a unique and convenient way of joining spiral duct and fittings. SPIRAmir® is a self-sealing spiral duct system that uses an O-Ring gasket. The “Rolling O” technology rotates easily between two grooves placed on the SPIRAmir® fittings. The first groove is the initial place of the O-Ring. When a fitting is inserted into the spiral duct, the O-Ring gasket rotates and moves from the first groove to the second. The rotation of the O-Ring moves the pipe over the fitting. This self-sealing method removes the need for caulking, an added benefit to reducing labor costs.

SPIRAmir® Self-Sealing System has the following advantages:

Economical
Lower field installation costs (about 30% to 40% savings) due to faster and easier joint connection
Energy Saver
Tighter joint connection equals minimal air leakage
Labor Reducer
Connections are made faster
Cleaner Appearance
Best for exposed applications with open-air designs.
